Hamvention 2017

​Hamvention 2017


The AREDN Project and the Miami Valley Mesh Alliance will have a large presence at Hamvention 2017. We will be in booth 1001 in Building 1 at the Greene County Fairgrounds near Xenia, Ohio. The dates are May 19, 20 and 21, 2017.

We are planning to conduct several demonstrations and answer all your questions about how mesh networking can aid your local emergency response agencies. In the AREDN Forum under General Discussion we have a thread to collect your suggestions for what you would like to see demonstrated.

Andre K6AH from the AREDN team will conduct a seminar on Saturday, February 18  at 10:20  on the effort to federate independent AREDN networks across California.

Conrad KG6JEI from the AREDN team and his friends of the Amateur Radio Tower Trailer Team will also be present. Mesh will again be apart of the demo operations planned from the trailer station so please feel free to come by and talk a bit about MESH or anything else Amateur Radio.

Sorry, but our presentation at Hamcation is canceled.

Well, actually the Thursday flight to Orlando got canceled due to the imminent snow storm and the first available seat was on a Saturday evening flight! However, if you are in the Sarasota area on February 25, Randy will be presenting at the ARRL West Central Florida section TECHCON located in the Sarasota County Red Cross headquarters.

The New York City – Tata Consultancy Services (NYC TCS) Marathon is a hugely visible annual event. This early November road race draws runners from around the world. A record 51,388 finishers crossed the finish line on Sunday, November 6, 2016, making it the largest marathon in the world in history.

Search results improvement

The results you will see from a search have changed. By default, search results are now grouped by the type of source page. This means that all results from Forum Topics are grouped together separately from search results from Knowledge Base, How To, News, Announcements and other page types.

Additionally, the source forum is indicated so that you will immediately know if the search result originated in a regional sub-forum or something else, such as hardware, VoIP, deployment or ragchew.

Andre Hansen, K6AH, gave a presentation today to the IARU Region 2 Emergency Communications Workshop in Viña del Mar, Chile. He introduced the technology and the work of the AREDN Project software development team and described techniques for deploying AREDN in support of AUXCOM.

Our need for XW testers is over. Thanks to the dedicated hams who volunteered to help tackle these thorny issues, we have completed most of the solution testing deemed sufficient to give us confidence in the applied fixes. There is still a bit of additional work to do before we announce a new stable release.

A map of the currently known AREDN nodes is available under the Map menu item on the main menu bar. You can also download KML files of the node location to use with Google Earth.

The collection of How-To articles is now found as a sub-menu under the Docs menu item on the main menu bar.

The AREDN team will be present at Ham-Com 2016 in Irving, Texas on June 10 and 11. 

At 12:00 noon on Friday in room 4, Conrad KG6JEI will present an overview of the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network project and how it can help you meet the growing need to  transmit large amounts of data efficiently over Amateur Radio. The talk will be followed by a discussion and workshop at which team members will demonstrate various aspects of the current software.

Thanks to the hard work of Darryl K5DLQ and the Beta Team, we are happy to announce that a new feature allowing tunnels between nodes that do not have RF connections, but do have internet connection, is now available as an add-on to the 3.0.1 BBHN build.

Changes in this version compared to 3.0.1b01 is the addition of a new watchdog script that we believe will solve the reboot count issue on nodes (apparent false triggers of the OLSRD Watchdog) and some overdue legal work in the backend adding the GPLv3 License header to appropriate files.
